Lighten up, Carrie Underwood style

5/10/1211:25 amBy Sarah Overmeyer 0 Comments

Country superstar and sweat heart, Carrie Underwood, shows off a picture-perfect look this spring. Luckily, for the typical Northwestern student, this look is comfortable enough to lounge in while furiously reviewing notes in the library but summery enough to hit the beach and throw your cares away. Now that almost every one of you’re friends from home is out of school for the summer, you’ll need a look that cheers you, and everyone around you, up in the month ahead. more

Cally’s Corner: Waging the Quasi-War

They said they’d call you later, but they didn’t. They forgot, and that’s okay I guess, except this is Opposite Day and you’re actually really mad. They forgot your birthday, they texted you back after declining your call, and they flaked on coffee at Norbucks even though you totally hinted you’d had a rough day.

This means Quasi-War. more

A week of condoms, steam baths, and reggaeton

We get it, guys. Once midterm season is over y’all get back to partying. Or at least, that’s what this weekend said. We went out and we saw an increase in party attendance and a return-to-form pretty much across the board in all areas of Northwestern ragers. Between the new beer selection, safe sex initiative and noise disturbance, we are so proud of you guys. Check out the full rundown, after the jump. more

Recently, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna both released hot new music videos. Both music videos show off their hot bods, a batshit crazy dance party, and luscious landscapes. Nicki and Rihanna proved that they are both femme fatales like Brit, but which one of them did it better? more

I Spy Pad Thai: Evanston’s guide to noodles

If there’s one thing the Intel editors have learned this week, it’s that there’s no one definition of Evanston pad thai. We sampled all shapes, sizes, colors, and ingredients that make up the vague recipe of what this food should be. Let us take you on an exotic journey (between the sheets) as we sample the most booty-worth restaurants and reminisce about the special nights they remind us of here.

NU theater and ETHS team up to produce Romeo and Juliet adaptation

The Northwestern theater program has collaborated with Evanston Township High School to present “The Romeo and Juliet Project,” a show responding to themes from Shakespeare’s classic love story. Self-written, themes discussed in the play include young love, sexuality, race and gender. Students are not only tying these themes to the entire society, but also, directly to their own lives. “It’s the freest of free theatre,” Diana Raiselis, Assistant Director of the show, says. “It’s something that has never been done before.” NU Intel decided to drop by and talk to the actors and actresses putting on the show. Check out the full slideshow here. The students will be performing their show on Friday, May 4 at 7 P.M, Saturday, May 5 at 2 P.M. and 7 P.M. and Sunday, May 6 at 7 P.M at the Struble Theater.

NU comedy team advances to TBS finals, will lower taxes to get your vote

5/2/129:00 amBy Kalyn Kahler 1 Comment

Let’s start living in reality: Our football team will never win the Rose Bowl and our basketball team may take a few decades to reach the NCAA tournament. For now, our only hope of winning any kind of championship lies in the comedic talents of SESP sophomore Mary Gulino, Weinberg sophomore Irene Tu, McCormick sophomore Nigel Ng and Bienen senior Thom Schwartz. These four make up the first Northwestern team to reach the finals in the TBS’s fifth annual Rooftop Comedy National College Comedy Competition. Four teams — NU, UC-Santa Cruz, Emerson and Maryland — remain out of 32 teams. Intel sat down with Gulino, Tu and Schwartz to talk about the long road to the finals, their comedic roots and their voting strategy. more

Cook up an exotic, tasty eggplant and red pepper dip

5/1/121:39 pmBy Teo Mungaray 0 Comments

Eggplants seem like the weirdest vegetable, considering their spongy, meaty texture. Even more bizarre is that the eggplant is in the same family as tobacco, tomatoes and potatoes. One step further? Eggplants are botanically and technically considered a berry, and their seeds contain nicotine. more

(Sex) Toy Story

The fourth in our series of columns from our weekly sex guru, Girl on Top, explores the world of toys. Hopefully readers will come away with their horizons broadened and their partners exhausted. Happy fucking, NU.

I enter the Chicago sex shop, nervous but excited, and entirely unsure what to expect.

The shop’s windows are covered with curtains and I feel like I’m entering a vampire’s lair as I walk in. The first thing that catches my eye is the wall of BDSM accessories — whips, chains, collars, and leather, leather, leather. To my right I see about 30 different models of vibrators and dildos to choose from. In the far back are DVDs and to the left are specialty candles and lube. It’s all a little intimidating.

So many shapes, colors, and materials — latex, silicone, plastic, and more.

My sex life was missing something very important: an orgasm. The lack of sexual creativity in my one-year relationship was not only boring, but was preventing me from climaxing. Something had to be done. more
