The countdown to Spring Break has already begun, which has left us all wondering how we’re going to get into shape in record time. We’re all suffering from pastiness thanks to the endless cold and gloom, but if there’s one thing we can control it’s how fit we are come Spring Break. Believe it or not, there are ways to get slim and toned up for bikini season without becoming a gym rat. If you’re not the type who craves the treadmill or dumbbells, you may be interested in taking barre classes at Fit Girl Studio (1642 Maple Ave).

Designed specifically for women who want to elongate their limbs, tone up their muscles and take part in a total body workout, barre classes work the muscle to fatigue in short amounts of time. Ballet techniques are used on the ballet barre so you can get your passé releve on like the dancer you always dreamed of being. Small isolated movements in the arms, thighs, glutes and abs make your body burn and shake. Although during classes you might want to die—or even worse, quit—you’ll get hooked and find yourself going back for another class or ten. If barre’s not your thing, try spin, yoga or ballet conditioning – all of which are offered at Fit Girl.

Fit Girl also offers what I like to call “Ass Class” (officially called Baby Got Back), an hour-long class devoted to toning and sculpting your butt. In addition, Fit Girl is currently offering a Spring Break Boot Camp: 10 days of specially crafted classes to blast calories and whip your body into shape before you hit the beach. Another plus: Fit Girl offers student discounts for all of their classes and packages. But beware. Just because the studio is hot pink, hairspray and hair ties in the bathroom, and the program’s clientele is solely female, that doesn’t mean the workouts won’t kick your ass. It just means you won’t see any grunting meatheads pumping iron and cramping your style.
