Parents’ Weekend is finally here and everyone’s busy either trying to hide the booze in their dorm room, or, if you’re on your own for the weekend, convincing a friend’s parents to take pity on you and buy you dinner. But what if your parents want to see what a typical weekend at college is like? Before freaking out, take a look at our ranking of the classiest (and trashiest) places to get drunk with your family in the Ev. Or if you want to escape from the campus scene this weekend, head down to the University of Chicago to see Northwestern band Zamin perform in a belated Diwali celebration. Hindi folk music not your style? Hardcore punk band Mauser might be more up your alley, with plenty of anger and energy.
If you find yourselves bored of your parents — or surrogate parents — this weekend, get crafty with some friends and make a fashionable scarf out of an old shirt. It may not be the warmest, but at least you’ll get some style points when walking up Sheridan. Or look great from head to toe with the advice of Communication junior Hannah Wolff. And if you’re not concerned about fashion (or calories), head over to BK, but beware that contrary to popular belief, you aren’t entering the most profitable Burger King in the nation.
Best of Buzz: Dance Marathon announced that Communication senior Ned Baker and Communication junior Ashley Thompson (otherwise known as the two bravest NU students) will emcee this year’s event. Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl’s plan to reduce punishments for possession of marijuana seems even more promising now, much to the delight of stoners everywhere. And a University of Illinois prof was fired for accusations of grade inflation. If only that was happening at Northwestern.
