ASG Senate restructuring gets caught up in classic Senate-style bureaucracy

Got an idea on how to reform ASG Senate? Well, get in line. During last night’s meeting, ASG finally got around to considering the emergency legislation proposed to reduce the number of senators from 49 to 20. It turns out radical reform (as described in the Daily, because the words “radical” and “government” always go so well together) is pretty popular after all. So popular, that everybody’s jumping on with their own proposals.

Upstart freshman senator Ani Ajith proposed a more “incremental approach,” so we can expect reform at least by the time we graduate. And another freshman senator, Aaron Zelikovich, decided, doggone it, he’s going to draft up his own proposal and show up with it next week! To be fair, Zelikovich makes a good point, telling the Daily, “We again have spent 25 minutes on an internal issue that has no significance. I agree with what was passed. I disagree with how it was passed…that’s not what Senate should be focusing on, and that’s not what students at Northwestern care about.” There’s a future ASG presidential candidate in the making; we’re digging the sound-bytes!
