Mad about Hiro
Our profile on ASG VP-elect Hiro Kawashima prompted some of the most charged comments of the week. It might have just been election-season politics, but the article prompted a gamut of anonymous responses. Our fave: “Their relationship is paternalistic? Why would she talk about that. Why is this even linked to Claire and Hiro’s page. It doesn’t help their case at all,” from “Paternalistic relationship?.” We agree with you. We were pretty surprised to see it linked on Claire and Hiro’s homepage, but we won’t argue with the publicity.
Comments: 2 who think the article gives over-the-top praise, 1 questioning Hiro’s decision to join ASG, 2 praising/criticizing our writer, 1 questioning Hiro’s love life
Mudslinging the ASG way
Political endorsements always elicit a slew of comments, so it wasn’t really a surprise when The Daily’s Monday endorsement of Claire Lew and Kawashima triggered 14 comments. The comments, however, were rather reflective of Wednesday’s ASG election results. Many charged Alessio Manti and Adam Thompson-Harvey with being poseurs and dubbed Lew and Kawashima the real deal. Our fave: “good grief, who cares? It’s asg, a student bureaucracy that is largely ineffective and does little to make any major changes year after year. what a waste of energy. and this hostile bickering is disgusting, sounds like crossfire on cnn. that show was canceled for a reason: it’s not nice, especially among fellow students. believe in better, really,” by “Anonymous.” While we do agree that the bickering is a waste of energy, we’re sure this person is one of NU Intel’s biggest fans.
Comments: 8 for Claire and Hiro, 2 for Alessio and Adam, 4 against the workings of ASG
Spektor speculations
This week Mayfest announced the coming of singer-songwriter Regina Spektor to Dillo Day and NU Intel attempted to gauge the reaction of the student body. Commenters of course had their own feelings about Mayfest’s choice which were also not spectacularly positive. Our fave: “Why don’t we save MayFest the $$$ they’re spending on this and just cry/cut ourselves in the darkness of our own rooms,” by “Braxton Pearst.” Either way, we’re probably going to have to drink a Red Bull after. Or a Joose.
Comments: 1 in favor of Regina, 2 opposed, 1 calling out NU Intel for poor ethics
