Evanstonians have found a new target—the Great Room. Residents have filed a petition against our newest dining option, arguing that a restaurant is not allowed in an area technically zoned for residents. So far, the NU response is that, as part of the university’s dining services for students, the Great Room doesn’t fall into the same category as BK or Panera. [The Daily]
Good news for those brave souls who brought their cars to campus—Evanston’s city government is installing parking meters that take credit cards, so you’ll never have to beg your friends for change again. Since the new meters are electronic, they also allow the city government to vary when parking is allowed–and for how long. Looks like parking meter tech has finally joined us in the 21st century. A professor at Columbia University punched a female colleague in the face, was charged with assault, posted bail, and is now back to his regular teaching duties. The cause of the original argument? Race. [Ivy Gate]
Lupe Fiasco came back to campus on Wednesday night to promote the new History Channel documentary, Let the People Speak, along with actor Michael Ealy and the film’s director. The three presented excerpts of the film, which is based on Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States (flashback to AP US, anyone?), and engaged in a discussion with a panel and the audience. Many of the students came to the event just to see the famous rapper, and they found him perceptive, intelligent, and even willing to give one nervous fan a hug. [NBN] [The Daily]
