Morty snaps fingers, gets ice rink. What else can Daddy M buy us?

With the ice rink done, some additional projects NU can take on

Ah, it looks so shiny—just like diamonds.

The Norris ice rink opens tomorrow, but the administration has been tight lipped when asked the budget for the project. University Prez Morton Schapiro told the Daily the cost for the rink, which was financed through his office, was “reasonable.” (The happiness brought to students during the dark and dismal winter months? Priceless.) No matter how much it costs, one thing’s for sure: Morty wants, Morty gets.

The rink began as a student’s idea, which was relayed to President Schapiro in early December, Norris Executive Director Rick Thomas said. In the course of a month, facilities management addressed the feasibility of the project and constructed the rink.

At a university where change has traditionally been gradual (at best),what we’ve learned is that when Morty wants something, he snaps his fingers and it gets done. He emphasized the importance of third spaces over building a new student center and we got Fran’s Café. He advocated for residential communities, and the Elder/ Hinman-Lincoln construction to connect the buildings began.

If Morty is listening to students’ suggestions of things to add to campus, we have a few things we’d love to see:

1.) Funnel cake in the dining halls
2.) A bar in Tech
3.) A bowling alley
4.) Hot tub/time machine
5.) No 3-month wait at CAPS… or a spa.
