Students rouse the library with American spirit and the national anthem on Sunday night
The news of Osama bin Laden’s death prompted vehement patriotism (and weird, unexplainable school spirit in the sorority quads) throughout our otherwise apathetic halls. From CHaze’s Obama/Osama Twitter mix-up to a trombone-accompanied national anthem in the library, our observations from around campus as the night progressed, after the jump.
—A bunch of pike guys running down the street with American flags
—Tweet about Sig Ep having an Osama party
—People shouting “USA” down the hall from me. Cute, but also kind of redneck.
—OMG the tweeting. Chet Haze falls to one letter difference between Osama and Obama. Evidence attached.

He quickly deleted the post and tweeted a redaction (sort of), also attached. Thank god for my Twitter addiction.

—One firework went off over north campus just now.
—People are running through the sorority quad chanting the “Go U Northwestern” football chant. I’m so confused.
—More fireworks!
—”Group of students just marched into the library and led a raucous rendition of the national anthem, complete with a giant American flag and accompaniment of accordion and trombone… naturally my boy Matthew Rizman was involved. Go America!”— FB status
—People in the room next to me are singing rounds of “I’m Proud to Be an American.” My floor is like a red state, or maybe just redneck, or drunk.
—”United we stand 5-1-2011″ chalked before the west door of University Hall
