Is it time to introduce Deru to affirmative action for certain majors? After checking out the Daily’s in-depth today on the administrative advisory board made up of (no longer anonymous) 22 seniors, what really surprised us wasn’t the fact that Deru actually plays a role on campus—it’s how slim the selection of seniors that runs the organization actually is. Weinberg, School of Comm, SESP, and McCormick get spots, while Medill and Bienen seem to just miss out. On one hand, it totally makes sense that Deru doesn’t have Medill folks because having media on an agenda setting group questions the independence of it. On the other hand, if they’re doing something for students, are Medill kids thus outside of that definition? Also, poor Bienen kids. They’re so ostracized.
