Parisian bike rental system heads to Chicago

Mayoral bad-ass Rahm Emmanuel announced Wednesday that over the next five years 5,000 bikes will be added to the current public transportation roster. The idea is that these bikes will save commuters time instead of relying on gridlocked buses that can add, perhaps, an hour to a commute. The bikes, conveniently placed at 500 docking station through the city, will operate similarly to the way current car sharing programs operate. Members will pay a yearly fee of about $75 and in return will receive a key fob granting them 30 minutes on a bike, per trip. The bikes can be checked out and returned to any location—the Redbox of transportation. Chicagoans will soon be experiencing the thrill of dodging bikes that Northwestern students have become all too familiar with
