What do we like more than trashy pop music? When faculty at elite academic institutions discuss the “deeper meaning” of trashy pop music.

The Princeton Tiger, the nation’s second oldest college humor magazine, recently sat down with professor Paul Muldoon, a Pulitzer-prize winning poet, to discuss the lyrical nature of Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok.” In a series the mag aptly titled “Deep Discussions in Contemporary Poetry,” the host described “Tik Tok” as “one of the most seminal, interesting and frankly beautiful songs of the last 20 years.”

Muldoon goes on to compare the repetition of the word “oh” in “Tik Tok” with the repetition of “no” in Shakespeare’s “King Lear.” And you thought Ke$ha just strung together those lyrics while drunk one night.
