The world’s temperature is rising, a Republican just won the Senate seat in Massachusetts, and now, a guido from the Jersey Shore might be going to law school. Personality Vinny Guadagnino from the hit MTV reality show talked with US Weekly about his GPA, Latin honors course, and the LSAT’s, saying “if my score was really well, then I might of just went to Yale or Harvard.” Fake tans and fist bumps in the Ivy League? We approve! [IvyGate]

Freshmen: Get rid of your Purple Book. ASG Vice President Tommy Smithburg announced on Wednesday that ASG has been working on a website that acts as an unofficial student guide to Northwestern, “by students, for students.” The material in the guide was written by members of ASG and includes information on, among other things, campus transportation, meal plans, and Chicago spots of interest. We get that it’s useful, but… the Purple Book still has the list of Top 10 “Best places to have a psychedelic experience on campus.” [The Daily]

Engineering professor Malcolm Maclver is going to Hollywood. No, not another American Idol finalist—Maclver has been enlisted as a technical script consultant by Battlestar Galactica’s sci-fi writers to ensure that their scientific concepts are realistic. “I introduced the concept of a generative algorithm for constructing artificial life to the writers, which refined the scientific basis of their storyline,” Maclver said. Right… we’re assuming the writers of Battlestar Galactica could understand that. [NBN]

Throw out the conventional ranking data for universities. The organization “4 International Colleges and Universities” (4ICU.com) has found a way to rank colleges based on how obsessed prospective students are, using data from university websites like page views, traffic, and links received. The result is a list of the top 200 most popular schools in the world, topped by MIT. NU? 80th. [NYT/The Choice]
