Vice President of Student Affairs William Banis will be retiring no later than August 31, 2011, according to an announcement from Provost Daniel Linzer .
Banis has been with Northwestern for 16 years and been in his current position since 2000. As VP of Student Affairs, Banis’s achievements include the creation of CAPS, the LGBT Resource Center, Multicultural Student Affairs, and improvements residential life, to name a few.
Linzer also credits Banis with this year’s expansion in SafeRide as an attempt to ensure campus security, as well as changes made to NU’s risk management policy, student health insurance, and Greek house leases. NU will put together a search committee to find a replacement for Banis made up of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, deans, and administrators.
