For some teams, Week 4 is the final chance at making an impression, fine-tuning for the playoffs, or even just getting a win (see: Pike Gold). And by this point in the season, the
NUIM website’s
standings are slowly beginning to mirror The Post’s power rankings, updated below.

Purple League
Purple week 3

Dropped out: Sig Ep 1 (1-1-1)

Stock Up: Pike Garnet, Sig Ep 2
We pumped the Pike-Sig Ep 1 game as a big matchup, only to have Pike make a mockery of our preview, winning easily 19-0. Aside from a slip-up in week two, Pike looks to be for real, but with only Lodge left on the schedule, it might be tough to move up in our ranks. Sig Ep 2 is the wild card team in Purple league right now. A stingy defense has been enough to go 2-0 so far, but Sunday’s game against OE looms large.

Stock Down: Delt
The only reason Delt is still in the top 5 is that there’s really no one else worthy of that spot. Tha Squad and Lodge are winless, Sig Ep 1 was walloped by Pike last week, and I just don’t believe in Beta. That said, don’t be fooled by the brand name this season. Delt is still a good team, but nothing like last year’s squad. That’ll happen when you lose your starting QB and top two receivers. Luckily, they have a shot to bounce back, as they draw Beta this week. Look for Delt to get back a bit of its swag Sunday in a blowout.

Week 4 Game to Watch:
#1 OE vs. #4 Sig Ep 2, Sunday 4PM @ Long Field

Sig Ep 2 looked so-so in a 6-2 win over Tha Squad in their week two debut, and then beat defending champion Delt in a big surprise last week. Right on cue, they face their biggest test: #1-seeded OE, an offensive juggernaut headed by NUIM director Ryan Coleman. Even with an admitted lost step or two, Coleman and his offense, bolstered by mid-season additions Deante Battle and Mike Sitkowski, shredded Delt last week and had no trouble with over-matched Beta week one. Sig Ep 2 has a chance to make a monster splash this week, and will be playing with nothing to lose.

White League

White week 3

Dropped out:
Evans Scholars (2-1), Lady Pirates Fastpitch Softball (1-1)

On the Bubble: El Cuatro (2-0), Matthew Stafford Infection (1-1-1), Steph’s Brists (1-0-1)

Stock Up: EQ Ballers, DU me in the Asquatch, Sigma Chi, JKFLB, Sheil, Delta Chi
EQ Ballers didn’t mess around with Evans Scholars, burying them early. The Ballers look like the real deal, although they’re probably still a step below the Quakers and ZBT. DU is blowing out its opponents — unfortunately the best team they will play in the regular season is The Donkey Goggles, who are ranked 27th right now, and that’s generous. Sigma Chi should take care of Kiss Da Baby Athletics Sunday, while JKFLB, Sheil, and Delta Chi all added wins over the weekend that warrant keeping an eye on them this week.

Stock Down: Mat Sci Carnage & Mat Sci Mayhem, Evans Scholars, SAE 1, Slivka
Mat Sci’s A-team has been a staple atop the White league rankings for weeks now, but after seeing them in action, I’m just not convinced they have top-tier talent. In fact, it was Mat Sci vs. Mat Sci last week, and it wasn’t pretty. Mat Sci is still trotting out new offensive plays, too, which is odd for a team that’s usually so well organized. SAE 1 and Evans Scholars both need to come back strong this week, against Monkey Business and JKFLB respectively.

Week 4 Game to Watch:
#9 Fumblerooski vs. Steph’s Brists, Sunday 5PM @ Long Field

Ever since a week one drubbing of Matthew Stafford Infection, I’ve been intrigued by Fumblerooski. Their roster boasts five varsity baseball players, including sophomore pitcher Francis Brooke, who moonlights at QB for the Rooskis. A forfeit win in week two and a week 3 bye means Sunday will be only the second time they take the field, and they will be itching to run the field. Steph’s Brists was at one point the number one-ranked team on the NUIM site, but tied with MSI on Sunday. Their offense is still figuring things out, but their D is rock solid. The key matchup will be Brooke’s deep-play arm against the Brists’ secondary.

Team Spotlight: El Cuatro
El Cuatro is probably not a real contender in the White league, but with a 2-0 record and a relatively soft remaining schedule, they’ll likely head into the playoffs in the top half of the standings. But that’s not what warrants your attention. Special ups to whoever on that team was smart enough to put a secret weapon on their roster: Mary Desler. Don’t believe me? Check out their roster. Nice job, fellas, that’s hilarious. If she ever dons flags and lines up at receiver, I may pronounce El Cuatro champs on the spot.
