An up-and-down Winter Break for the Wildcats
2009 ended in historic fashion for the Northwestern Wildcats Men’s basketball team.
2010 smacked them back to reality.
The ‘Cats concluded their 2009 non-conference slate with lopsided wins over North Carolina A&T, North Florida, and Central Connecticut State. They had a thrilling victory over Stanford in a battle of the ‘we’re good academic schools that also want to be good at sports’ schools. more 
There are 347 NCAA Division I basketball teams. As of last year’s NCAA Tournament, only five teams had never made it to the Big Dance:
Army
William and Mary
St. Francis (NY)
The Citadel
And of course, Northwestern
North Dakota State—in its first ever season of Division 1 basketball—did what NU hasn’t done in 71 years, made the tourney. more 
NU Basketball Preview: How to be a good fan
You may have heard that Northwestern has a basketball team. They play at Welsh-Ryan Arena, which is that big building right next to Ryan Field (where the football team plays). Basketball season starts this week, which means tens of students will descend upon NU hoops’ hallowed grounds.
For those students who have yet to make the trek to the Welsh, I present to you some valuable tips on how to be a good Northwestern basketball fan. Obey them if you wish, but just know that if you are out of line at a game, I’m going to have to sock you in the mouth.

Coach Carmody has been a controversial figure over the years (there is a basketball blog whose name is dedicated to his firing), but the bottom line is that he’s the winningest coach in Northwestern’s sad basketball history. more
