For the most part, they use Track of the Day to highlight hidden gems from the depths of WNUR’s library. Or, put in other terms, they mostly talk about records that are hard to listen to if you don’t have an overwhelmingly ambitious interest in underrepresented music. more

Nerd-Hop for Northwestern

Jordan Looney, the Northwestern alumnus who once performed on Dillo Day, dropped a new mixtape right before Valentine’s Day titled Nerd-Hop Volume 3: Side B. The eleven-track mixtape is Looney’s fourth offering and we would like to say: It’s the best one yet. Rocking over a unique flavor of production, Looney’s raps celebrate life and talk about things that are easy to relate to. Looney’s strongest point is his delivery as he changes up his flow to fit each beat perfectly. more

NU has always managed to hold its own when it comes to high-brow culture. Theatre shows, dance performances, freshmen roommates debating the syncopation of a Bach concerto—just normal college stuff. But this year NU surprised us by proving itself as a bastion for the low-brow from fratty rappers to satirical Twitter accounts. The band Aurelia markets itself as one which has been “bridging the gap between sophistication and accessibility,” providing “music for today’s world,” and is “just what listeners have been looking for.” Unfortunately, that description set our expectations a little too high. more

Now that Intel is back, we have unofficially appointed ourselves to cover every white frat boy (Booshua, anyone?) who raps about our college bubble, AKA espouses his love for The Deuce and weighs in on the attractiveness and bedroom behavior of his co-eds. So when Chet Hanks drops a new rap about Northwestern, all hell breaks loose in the Intel newsroom. Well, if we actually had a newsroom.
