Junior gets spiritual after early morning skinny dip
Junior | Female | Medill | Off-Campus
The funny thing about summer in Evanston is that, despite the beautiful weather and nonexistent stress of the school year, I still want to get the fuck out. The cringe-worthy memories of snow, sleet, and classes make me stir-crazy. more
Head downtown for a lavish fashion show
Can the likes of Borris Powell, Lara Miller, and Eva Pazola compare to household name designers such as Donna Karan or Marc Jacobs? Have you even heard of Borris Powell? Neither have the bored housewives attending Fashion Focus, Chicago’s pretend-New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. But we know they’ll fake some oohs and aahs for the Chicago-based designers’ collections. more
Celebrate your lactose tolerance with free cheese
Happy American Cheese Month! Celebrate your love of dairy products with free cheese tastings in Chicago Thursday. The goal of the month-long free cheese tour is to raise awareness of the quality and diversity of American cheeses while increasing support for family farms, traditional cheese production methods, and sustainable production models. Errr…ok. All I got out of that was FREE CHEESE. Put your lactose intolerance to good use and keep the American Cheese Education Foundation going strong—or just shovel the cheese into your backpack and have a fine wine and cheese pregame fit for campus royalty. Full deets after the jump. more

Parisian bike rental system heads to Chicago
Mayoral bad-ass Rahm Emmanuel announced Wednesday that over the next five years 5,000 bikes will be added to the current public transportation roster. The idea is that these bikes will save commuters time instead of relying on gridlocked buses that can add, perhaps, an hour to a commute. The bikes, conveniently placed at 500 docking station through the city, will operate similarly to the way current car sharing programs operate. Members will pay a yearly fee of about $75 and in return will receive a key fob granting them 30 minutes on a bike, per trip. The bikes can be checked out and returned to any location—the Redbox of transportation. Chicagoans will soon be experiencing the thrill of dodging bikes that Northwestern students have become all too familiar with
Arcade Fire promises a night of hipster-filled dance floors
Have you ever heard of the band—well, I guess I shouldn’t bother, they’re super obscure and not many people know who they are or even really appreciate them. I’ll ask anyway. Ever heard of Arcade Fire? more
After they moved to the “axis of hipster evil,” ’08 NU grads Andrea Bartz and Brenna Ehrlich took an anthropologic approach to analyzing their indifferent, anti-mainstream Brooklyn co-eds. The result? A blog-to-book fairytale, in which their website, Stuff Hipsters Hate, took off. more
